The first time I saw our house, six years and six weeks ago, I fell in love with the Irises.

I probably should have been paying attention to other things, like pipes and insulation and whether or not the windows opened and closed. But I loved the Irises. They smell like grape candy.

We had seven big yellow tulips this year.
Four years ago, we had only one in that spot and it had these red streaks. Every year, I hope to see it again.

So far, the marks haven't reappeared. Only the edges of the petals are red, like they've been dipped in ink.

Two years ago, I stopped trying to take perfect garden pictures. I decided to take photos whenever I felt like it whether or not I had raked or weeded or pruned or edged or if the sun was shining or not. I ended up with a lot of photos that make me happy, and making me happy is why I work in the garden in the first place.
2006 was the year we planted the stump garden and that thing rocked. Many thanks to my mom for this idea.

The year before I had taken my first stab at planting perennials. So this was my first experience watching them come back. This Double Blue Platycodon/Balloon Flower was particularly fantastic.
